“Love is patient… Love is kind… It does not envy… it does not boast.”

Five days have gone by, and Aaliyah still had seen no sign of Chase. Aaliyah has been hiding at the “Forbidden Fortress”, living off any food she could find. Today, she decided that she needed to start over, and find a well paying job in the kingdom. Quickly she washed herself up in the pond, packed some honeysuckles, and then went off onto her journey.
She stopped several times in the wilderness to rest, before she entered the gates that led into Cadence, the kingdom of which she was going to look for labor work in. Before she knew it, she got tumbled over by a sudden impact on her body. She looked up from the hard stone ground at the entrance of Cadence, to find Chase there with his back towards her.
“Oh my I’m so sorry.” Chase said turning around slowly, obviously is a rush to get somewhere and not aware of his surroundings, “It seems like this is happening a lot to me lately—.” he said just when his mouth dropped, “Aaliyah?”
“Chase?” Aaliyah answered dumbfounded at what just happened.
“Oh my goodness.” Chase said as he quickly helped her up, “I thought I would never see you again. What are you doing here?” he said as he shot some smiles at her.
Aaliyah, with the help of Chase, stood up and laughed gently, “Oh I was just looking for a job.”
“Nice.” Chase said grinning back, “About the other day…I’m so sorry I left—.”
“Forget about it.” she said smiling. Just then from the corner of her eye, she spotted a palace guard starting to walk up to her. Chase seemed to notice it too, because Aaliyah realized he was starting to shift uncomfortably from foot to foot.
“Pardon me miss, but Prince Carlson really mustn’t be talking to beggars. Orders from the king.” she heard the beastly guard say to her sternly. Aaliyah noticed that she did look like a beggar with the torn up brown dress with mud stains on it, with dirt glazed on her hands and face. But hearing the word “prince” really took her off guard.
“Excuse me, but did you say prince?” Aaliyah couldn’t help but smile at the word, “I think you made some mistake because Chase is not a prince, or anywhere near us is for that matter.” she said as she glanced her eyes back and forth from Chase to the guard, “Right Chase?” Aaliyah fixed her gaze on him. Chase loudly cleared his throat, and awkwardly looked at her.
“No he is right. I am Prince Carlson…and I shouldn’t—.” his voice started to whimper, “be talking to beggars.” Aaliyah just stood there, she could feel her eyes being filled with droplets of water, but she made sure that she made no sign.
“Bye Cha—, I mean Prince Carlson. Have a nice day.” with that she bowed and departed around the guard and the prince. After she was far away enough to not be noticed, she caught the prince wiping his face and set off with his white stallion. She turned her head back around, and looked at the bakery up ahead. If their was one thing she could do well, that would be cooking. She started to pick up her pace as she got near to the wooden blue, squeaky, door. A bell triggered the whole bakery once she opened the door. Inside the quaint little two room bakery, their was brown wooden chairs and tables that were separated from the kitchen from a long wooden counter. The counter displayed all the treats and goodies that the kitchen had made, the access into the kitchen was a little swinging black door that was built into the counter.
“Excuse me? Anyone here?” Aaliyah said loudly as she heard her voice echo throughout the room. Just then she saw someone come out from inside the kitchen. It looked like to Aaliyah the baker. For you see, the women that came out of the room had flour all over her body with a white apron the covered her plain blue puffy dress.
“Yes miss. How may I help you?” the baker said behind the counter as she tried to take the flour off of her forehead.
“Uhm.” Aaliyah said clearing her throat, “I would like to work here if thats okay. I have years work of experience from cooking for kids at the place where I stayed.” Aaliyah tried to sound confident, but she didn’t know how she was doing. She noticed how the baker started looking at her intently, as if trying to see she would be any good.
“Well…I pay-” the baker started to say but got loudly interrupted from Aaliyah.
“Oh I don’t want to be payed. I would just like a place to stay and something to eat everyday in return.”
“Well then, I accept your offer. Ever since my last employer left me, I have been left with no one. If you go out of the bakery and turn a left, their should be on dirt path that will lead you to a cottage. That place you can now call your home. I expect you here at work tomorrow first thing in the morning.”
“Yes ma’am.” Aaliyah said smiling behind her teeth. With all that said,
Mrs. Valerie (which Aaliyah later learned was the bakers name), handed her the keys for the cottage and told her to get ready for tomorrow since there was a ton of orders coming in. But what took Aaliyah’s attention the most, was how Mrs. Valerie said one of the orders was coming from Prince Carlson.
Once upon a time, in a faraway kingdom, a girl of age sixteen was in an orphanage. You see, it was a very foggy and cold day, it was the day that the girl named Aaliyah was determined to escape.
All of a sudden, she heard the grand clock, in the orphanage, strike five o’clock a.m. In other words, her signal to run for the outside world. She made one daring step for the front door, when she heard the matron following after her. Quickly moving her sleek brunette hair out of her eyes, she told herself, “This time I am determined to leave.”
Before she knew it, she was was out of the old and run down orphanage and into the wilderness, running for her life. As she looked behind her, expecting to see the matron following close behind, she accidentally tripped and landed in the mud pool beside her.
“Oh my bad.” she heard a deep voice say. As she looked up from the ground, she felt her eyes meet with deep ocean blue ones, staring back down at her, “Here let me help you up.” the anonymous said quickly as he jumped off of his white stallion, “You stay here Torres. Don’t try to pull any moves.” all the horse said in reply to his owner was a quick neigh. Now Aaliyah, clueless in this situation, stubbornly resisted to let this random stranger help her.
“I don’t need your help.” she said glaring her eyes at the person standing in a foot in front of her. Aaliyah quickly tried to pull herself together, and struggled to get up out of the mud pool.
“Here let me try this in other words in which you might understand.” she heard him say back in reply, “I’m going to help you up, and I am going to take you somewhere where you can get all that mud off of you. Because no way am I going to be seen with a dirty mess of mud around the kingdom.” the horse neighed in agreement. Suddenly the complete stranger made notions as if he was going to pick Aaliyah up.
“If you lay one hand on me you stranger, I promise you—.” she got cut off as he picked her up and put her on Torres, the white stallion, and jumped on behind her grabbing the reigns as he did.
“Nice to meet you too. You seem lovely.” he said in sarcasm forcing a grin, “I’m Chase, see now all I need to know your name and we will not be strangers anymore.” he said as he quickly pulled the reigns on Torres as a signal to start galloping. Aaliyah completely disgusted of this whole situation summoned back in a clear and stern voice.
“As intriguing as this conversation is getting to be, I really should go. And as of now, your the last person I would announce my name to. Just in the few seconds I’m with you, I find you really obnoxious and—.” once again she got cut off as she heard Chase’s loud voice declare.
“We are here! My favorite place in the whole wilderness. Discovered it myself really. I call the it the “Forgotten Fortress” because it seems as if nobody has been here for years.” in front of them stood a large glistening pond, with trees sweeping over wild flowers. The sunlight gleamed through two branches, illuminating the misty surroundings. Sounds of birds and waterfalls echoed throughout the deserted area. Even a single breath could be heard.
“Wow.” Aaliyah whispered in astonishment.
“I know its beautiful huh.” he said as he jumped off Torres holding his hand out for Aaliyah to be helped down. She gently slapped his hand away and jumped off herself, “Wow so this is how it is? Why can’t you just let a gentleman help you—.” he got interrupted by Aaliyah’s laughter that didn’t seem to stop, “What is so funny?” Chase said starring at the girl completely puzzled.
“Oh nothing.” Aaliyah said smiling to herself, “I just think it is funny how you see yourself as a gentleman, when you are evidently not even close to being…ever.”
“What is that supposed to mean?” he said staring at her completely bewildered.
“Well you pick girls up and put them on horses, talk to animals—.” just as she said that she saw Chase turn around face forward into a tree, causing him to trip over a tree branch, sending him straight into the pond, “Did I mention you were clumsy yet?” Aaliyah said laughing hysterically, leaning herself over the pond where was Chase struggling to stay afloat.
“Fine I’m not a gentleman, your right.” Chase smirked out in reply, “Which is why I am going to do this.” and without any hesitation he quickly grabbed on to Aaliyah’s shoe and pulled her inside the pond as he pushed himself onto the dry ground, “Look who is laughing now.” Chase forcing a little laughter, “This person.” he gestured to himself.
“Chase this isn’t funny. Help me out.” Aaliyah exclaimed gasping her air as she went below and then above the water frantically.
“Oh so now you want my help.” he said grinning, “Looks like somebody doesn’t like being the person laughed about.”
“Chase I’m serious!” yelled Aaliyah as she spat out the fresh water coming into her mouth, “I have never learned how to swim! Save me before I drown, please, if their is any caring side in you.” with that said Chase dove into the body of water and rescued Aaliyah to the dry land. Breathless they laid side by side in the mess of wild grass. They quickly turned their heads, making it so they faced each other.
“Look I’m sorry I didn’t save you earlier. I had no idea you didn’t know how to swim.” Chase said sincerely staring into her dark green eyes.
“You have a twig in your hair.” she said smiling as she gazed back into his eyes. She couldn’t but let out a little laughter as he got up and tried to shake out the twig in his hair, “I was joking.” Aaliyah said as she covered her laughter underneath her hands.
“Wow so funny.” he said grinning, “There is a spider on your dress.” Chase said pointing to Aaliyah.
“Ah. Where?” she said screaming as she ran to Chase, “Get it off!” she shrieked as she kept shaking her dress. Just then Chase let out a chuckle and whispered to her.
“I’m just joking.” he couldn’t help but grin when he said that. Aaliyah just stood there speechless, as she gently punched his shoulder, “ Very funny.” she said smiling. A few seconds went by of awkward silence, that finally ended when the stallion made a loud thumping sound with its back legs. Quickly, she saw Chase pull out a pocket watch that he had in his pocket.
“Snap, I have to go. I’m running late to something I had planned.” he said as he ran and hopped on to Torres.
“Oh okay. Maybe we will we talk soon?” asked Aaliyah questionably as she stood their completely taken off guard.
“Yeah hopefully sooner.” was Chase’s quick reply. Just as he was about to leave on his stallion, he remembered to ask something, “You never told me your name.” he said staring at her curiously.
“Aaliyah.” she said back.
“Aaliyah.” Chase whispered to himself as he departed from the “Forbidden Fortress”.
